Stan's Visit to Peru
Stan overlooking Machu Picchu
The tiny tree left of centre in the top picture is in the centre right of this picture.
The Urubamba river (El Rio Urubamba) is out of sight at the bottom of the amazingly steep drop, far below in the background.

Stan irreverently leaning on an ancient wall in the Lost City of the Incas, Machu Picchu.
Note the steep mountains of the Andes in the background, that the "Lost City" is also built on.

"Welcome to Machu Picchu [small city]. Thank you for your visit"
The tourist town of Aguas Calientes, by the side of the Urubamba River, and tucked by the bottom of a steep hillside with a gravel road with 50 hairpin bends that busloads of tourists are taken on to reach Machu Picchu. Tourist literature emphasizes the steep hairpin bends in an attempt to excite or frighten tourists I suppose, but for a Kiwi boy like me, it was just like driving down the road back home. Aguas calientes is at the end of the line, a four hour train ride from Cuzco the capital city of the ancient Incans.
The main square ("Plaza de Armas") of Aguas Calientes.
There is a brass plaque under the statue, written in Spanish. Might translate it one day and put it here also.

Looking out of my bedroom window of my homestay in el suburbio de Magisterio, en el cuidad de Cuzco.
The foreground is the first floor courtyard of my host's two-storey house in this well-to-do suburb.

The main cathedral of Cuzco, standing on the side of the main square
The main square again, with the cathedral on the left.
In the middle distance is the dome of La Iglesia de la familia ("the church of the family")
Somewhere I have a closeup picture of the church. Will put it up one day.
